What Dimensions Do I Need To Know When Buying A Guitar Neck?

I already have the body and am planning on building a guitar around it. I have never done anything like this before but do have a good knowledge of guitars having played them for14 years.

I just built myself a strat by buying parts. If you have a body, then you need to make sure that the neck you’re buying has the same distance from nut to 12th fret as 12th fret to where the saddles would be on the body. If it is out by about a centimetre then you can adjust it later on the inotation on the saddles. You need to get the heel measurements to see if the heel fits your heel slot on your body: height, width. Also the width of the neck could be useful, to see whether the strings will have room on the neck.
Hope i helped =D
It’s all preference, really.
Go to a site like Warmoth.com or allparts.com, they have replacement necks.
They’ll list the neck pocket size, etc. Most likely you need a strat style neck.
I’ve gotten replacement necks that wouldn’t quite fit in the neck pocket and had to sand them down….but mostly they’re universal fits.
I think the only fixed requirement is that the distance from the nut to the twelfth fret must be the same as the distance from the twelfth fret to the bridge. Other than that the decisiions are down to personal choice and aesthetics.
