i found a great martin model with a worn finish for a very very good price but some of the tarnish is worn off on the bottom… is it still a decent buy?

I wouldn’t worry about the finish. It’s the sound you should be concerned about. Sound is never consistent, even with manufactured instruments, which is why you’d never want to buy an instrument without playing it first. Everyone has different tastes too. The person selling it may say it sounds awesome, but you get it and it’s too tinny or too dark for your liking.
Of course, if it’s a great deal, and you don’t like it, you can always re-list it on eBay if you can’t return it.
