i want an acoustic guitar. But i don’t know whether to get one with nylon strings or metal strings.
I don’t know how much to spend. I have saved up around $240 (Australian).
Would i need lessons or could i learn off the internet?
How long will it take me to learn to play?
Do i need a guitar pick?

okay, haha soo many answers!… in order the answers are:
its completely up to you weather you get nylon or steel string, steel strings are way harder on your fingers but they ring out alot more, and nylons are easy on your fingers (good for begginers) but they sound a little bit muted.
im not sure what australian money is compared to us money but in the US a good acoustic guitar would be about 300- 400 dollars.(usd). a good guitar (steel string) would be an epiphone, if your on a budget, an epiphone is an excellent guitar with an excellent price! they are durible too. and sorry but im not as familiar with good brands of nylon guitars.
its possible to teach yourself or learn of the internet, but unless you are pretty musically talented, its very difficult. i strongly advise you go take REAL lessons to get the hang of all the tips and tricks to the art. ask your teacher to teach you how to play guitar tabs, teach you the basic chords, fingerplacement, strumming patterns, and anything else thats essential to learning.
well, technically, you will keep learning guitar for forever, it depends on your level of musical talent and how fast you learn overall. i have “musical talant” so it “comes natural to me” so i have been playing for 6 years without ANY lessons and people have told me they would have thought i’ve been playing for 10 years with lessons, to become what you concider “good” at guitar i would guesstimate that it would take 2 years. for what you call “good”
and finally, yes you will need MANY pickS. its not impossible to strum a guitar without a pick, but it tears up your fingers (especially for beginners) and you dont get quite a “ring” out of the guitar as you would with a pick, there are 3 types of picks, light, medium, and heavy, for an acoustic you should use light to medium, depending on the sound you are looking for.
SHORT ANSWER AND GUIDE: get a pretty decent epiphone acoustic steel string guitar get lessons until you think you can teach yourself via tabs and chords for songs off the internet. it will take around 1-2 years for you to become “good”, and you will need many picks light-medium thickness.
GOOD LUCK
Classical (nylon string) guitars are used almost exclusively for classical music. Unless you’re interested in playing classical music do not buy a classical guitar. A steel string acoustic guitar can be used for a wide variety of styles including pop, rock, folk, bluegrass, and more.
Most people do much better with lessons. There are people who have taught themselves but lots more who tried and failed.
It will take you a while before you’re playing well but if you enjoy it then it will be fun right from the beginning.
Yes, you need a pick. They are cheap, so buy an assortment including a think, medium, and think so you can determine which you prefer. Good luck.
well, if you can buy offline, then you can find plenty of guitars for the amont of money you have. i would buy a guitar with metal strings, because ones with nylon strings don’t sound that great. it shouldn’t take you long to learn how to play if you take lessons and practice quite a bit. you can get lessons offline, but i would reccomend getting private lessons with a guitar teacher. i don’t know how much guitars usually cost in australia, but in america, a decent beginner guitar is around 100 dollars, which would be about 126 dollars in australia so you shouldn’t have to spend too much money
a steel string is ideal, as then you have the option of hooking it up to an amp if you want to later on, though they are generally more expensive than standard acoustics. so if your not looking to use it with amplification and effects then acoustic is the way to go
For that amount u can get a nice washburn or alvarez steel string acoustic get u a couple of picks light medium and hard how long before u play well depends on how much u practice
