Buying Guitar For A Beginner, Is This Equipment Appropriate?
Is this guitar equipment ok for a beginner? And what might one pay for the guitar alone, second hand?
My boyfriend has been wanting to learn to play, but keeps having financial stuff come up when he is ready to buy. I found this equipment for sale at what seems to be a decent price, but I don’t really know if it is appropriate for a beginner. I’m hoping to surprise him.
Also, what do I need to buy so that he can practice wearing headphones?…he lives in an apartment and doesn’t want to bother the neighbors.

Hi Linda. While that Ibanez guitar has been out of production for a while, it is still a great guitar. Ive found 4 stores here in Michigan selling them, and the price range is 275 on the low side, all the way up to 425 on the high side. The one at 425 was in excellent shape, 275 was pretty dinged and scratched, and there were 2 more going for 350 that looked like they were in decent shape. All these guitars except the one selling for 275 came with a hardshell case.
Ive seen the amp going anywhere from 149 all the way up to 200, and that one was in near perfect shape. Those are nice amps by the way, and it should last him a long time.
And yes… this is very good equipment for a beginner. The necks on these guitars are very easy to play, and it is a very good quality guitar.
As far as silent practice goes… your already giving him one heck of a gift.. so.. this is something that would not run an arm and a leg, and comes loaded with a ton of FX as well. Just click on the link ive provided, and it should help you out some. http://www.zzounds.com/item–BEHVAMP2
Hope this has helped ya out.. and.. My birthday is just right around the corner if your looking to buy more music gear for someone!!! lol…
Wow that sounds sounds like a pretty nice set up… if you get him that I’m sure that he would be very happy… only problem is… if your talking about the amp that i think you are… i don’t think it has the ability to play only through headsets. i have a create amp and the same dimensions as the one you mentioned and i cant play with only headsets…. you might wanna get something smaller for his first shot at an amp. unless he is planing on playing a show some time soon… that’s going to be extremely loud. also when picking out a guitar for anyone the two main things you wanna focus on are how well the neck feels when you play it (how easy it is to push down the frets to play and make a good sound) and what it looks like… you can always change the pick-ups later to costomize what you need. for a begginer i def recomend an electric guitar… way easy to play and there f***ing sweet. so it sounds like your on your way to getting your BF a good guitar pack. also go to your local music store and ask those guys what they know…. they love helping people that are just beggining.
dont go to guitarcenter if you can help it… they will try to sell you the most expencive thing they have.
well i think thats about it.
Good luck
