Accessories, as any good fashionista will tell you, can either make or break an outfit. Now I’m not suggesting that a guitar played with last year’s guitar pick simply isn’t worth the effort, or that red guitar straps are the new black. However, guitar accessories do have one thing in common with their fashion counterparts-each is designed to help the user get the most out of his or her instrument or outfit, as the case may be.
There is actually a rather long list of guitar accessories available to the discerning guitar player. These range from various types of guitar supports to amplifiers to nail kits. Yes, nail kits. Hey, all that plucking and strumming can be murder on your cuticles. Suffice it to say, there are enough guitar accessory options to ensure that anyone, be they novice or master, can at least look like they know what they’re doing with their guitar.
Some accessories allow the artists to increase the variety of sounds that can be created by the guitar. For instance the capotasto, or “capo,” as it is more commonly called, is used to alter the pitch of the strings. This accessory is clipped to the fret board through either spring or elastic tension, and the use of one allows the artist to play in different keys without having to change the chord formations. Because of the ease with which they allow guitar players to change keys, these little gizmos are sometimes referred to as “cheaters.”
A plectrum, commonly referred to as a guitar pick, is a small piece of hard material used to “pick” a guitar’s strings. While most classical players prefer to use their finger nails (hence the nail kits), the guitar pick is commonly used amongst electric and sometimes acoustic guitar players. It is usually held between the thumb and first finger of the picking hand and is generally made of plastic, although bone, wood, steel and tortoise shell picks can also be purchased. The guitar pick comes in many shapes, sizes and thicknesses and varies depending on the application. Jazz picks are usually small and agile, whereas those intended for base guitars are generally larger.
A guitar accessory does not even need to be specifically designed for the guitar; it can be anything the artist uses to alter the instrument’s sound. The term “slide” in guitar lingo can refer to the neck of a bottle, a knife blade or a round metal bar that is used to create a glissando, or a gliding transition from one pitch to another. Such accessories are commonly used in blues and country music and sometimes in rock. Some guitars are even played exclusively with a slide, and these instruments are referred to as steel guitars.
Then there are those accessories designed to help with the logistics of playing the guitar. Guitar supports, for example, are an alternative to the commonly use footstool. This device lifts the guitar from the player’s knee, allowing the artist to keep both feet on the ground. Guitar armrests are designed to support the picking arm as it drapes over the guitar’s body. And the traditional guitar strap, of course, simply helps the guitarist by supporting the instrument when he or she is in a standing position.

What is a fingerpicking guitar? There has always been a division of acoustic guitars between “folk” and “classical” which mostly refers to whether the guitar is fitted with nylon or steel strings. A nylon string guitar is ideal for fingerpicking because it is easier on the finger nails. The steel string guitars are suited to flatpicking but some people do play fingerstyle on steel strings.

Some guitar makers have recently taken up the practice of calling certain guitars – like the Martin OM-2 - “fingerpicking guitars”. Is this label really accurate? Is one guitar really better for fingerpicking than another? Some people say that guitars best suited for fingerstyle measure one and three-quarter inches across the nut and guitars better for flatpicking measure one and eleven-sixteenth inches. That could be getting a little technical.

Of course Dreadnought size guitars, that many guitarists see as flatpicking guitars are a bit awkward for fingerpicking. This is not a universal opinion – some players prefer the larger size guitars for fingerstyle. There’s even evidence that Merle Travis played a Martin D28.

The Dreadnought guitar was specifically designed to project sound in a live, unplugged setting. As most of the live acoustic gigs of the time were oriented to bluegrass, this would suggest that the larger guitar was made for the flatpicker.

Indeed flatpicking sounds excellent on a Dreadnought or one of the larger style guitars because they produce a uniformly big sound. This contrasts with the smaller guitars that do not have such an overpowering bass but have wider nuts to accommodate fingerstyle players.

A guitar like the Martin D28 is ideally suited to bluegrass, gospel, country and rock. Everybody agrees that the guitar has a great bass response but some people actually find the treble a little on the thin side. Of course, the strings you choose to play on has some bearing on the sound.

A guitar that does not need to be picked with a great deal of force will always be better suited to fingerstyle players. The guitars with small bodies are thought by a lot of guitarists to be fingerstyle guitars because the treble notes are not overpowered by the bass as would be the case with Dreadnoughts.

This article has given you some of the opinions from all sides of the debate about whether particular guitars are for fingerstle or flatpicking. In the real world nobody takes any notice of rules or specifications. You find a guitar that you like to play and you stay with it.

A guitar tuner is an amazing help to guitar players of all stages of expertise. Every guitar player should learn how to use a guitar tuner early in his career. They are small and compact and will come to your aid when your ear is too tired and emotional to tune your guitar with any accuracy. For many guitarists, tuning the guitar is more difficult than playing it, and a lot of time is wasted at gigs and during lessons trying to tune guitars by ear.

The notes on the open strings of the guitar are E A D G B E. Guitar tuners come in several different forms and perform the work of tuning guitars to varying degrees of completeness.

Although a guitar player tuning his guitar by ear might look cool, the fact is that nobody’s ear is as good as a decent electronic tuner. You could forget all about trying to train your ear altogether and just make sure your guitar tuner goes everywhere that you and your guitar go.

An electronic guitar tuner tells the guitarist if the note he is playing on each open string of his guitar is at the correct frequency. Electronic guitar tuners can vary greatly in price but the most expensive is not necessarily the best. Some tuners are just LEDs you can carry on stage with you to tune your guitar on the fly, some tuners are able to tune many different instruments.

There are many guitar tuners available online that simply sound the notes that correspond to the open strings of the guitar and the guitar player has to use his ear to match his guitar to the sound of the tuner.

There are also tuners that are available as free downloads from the internet. Some of these have several different displays to help you tune your guitar accurately and some can tune to various alternate tunings. Learning how to use a guitar tuner of this type would be a good move for any learner guitarist.

Low priced guitar tuners that you can buy at music stores use a similar method but the difference is that the tuner also has a needle that will indicate how close your tuning is. There are slightly more expensive guitar tuners that do a similar job but have a better quality display.

There is a guitar tuner that clips onto the guitar and “feels” the vibrations coming through the guitar when the open strings are played. Although we can’t hear the comparison with this kind of tuner, the result is a little better than with your basic LED display and getting to know how to use this kind of guitar tuner is a little easier.

Newbie guitar players are flocking to <a href="http://guitar-how-to.com/” rel=”nofollow”>Guitar How-To for the free articles, tutorials and videos on every aspect of guitar playing you can think of.

There is something timeless about Gibson guitars.

They have been around for a million years it seems and they have been responsible for some of the most innovative guitar designs ever to appear.

The humbucking pickup is a Gibson design. Who could imagine life in the 21st Century without humbucking pickups for guitars? You couldn’t! That would be a nightmare reality! There goes “Rock” music. We’d all be playing and listening to … I don’t know!

There is a passion behind Gibson guitars that is very admirable and commendable. That passion has been there for many, many decades! We the user have received and created JOY with a Gibson in our hands and our creativity in full bloom. Many generations of great song writers, and guitar players have been and gone. The Gibson name has stayed througout time. Why? Because they are great guitars!

At GASKELL Guitars we manufacturer exclusively left handed guitars. Our mainstay model is based on the 1958 Gibson Explorer. This is a wonderful guitar, ahead of it’s time when it was designed, and to this day is a popular “extreme shape” guitar with many artists such as James Hetfield (Metallica), The Edge (U2), Gary Moore, and more. In the 1980s and 1990s just about every guitarist seemed to played Explorers or Explorers made by other guitar manufacturers such as The Police, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Kiss, U2, Metallica, Rick Nielsen, ZZ Top, Lynard Skynard, Gary Moore, and more!

The modern day Explorer is not made in left hand by Gibson or their subsidiary, Epiphone.

A left handed version is made by GASKELL GUITARS.

Other guitar manufacturers who have been inspired by this masterpiece of music instrumentation are Hamer (theirs is called the Hamer “Standard” and doesn’t have the pickguard), Dean Guitars (make an impressive range of colours for their version), Jackson Guitars (Jackson’s is called the “Kelly” and is a little different from the Explorer but is still visibly Explorer derived.) Other companies have made clones of the Explorer such as Tokai, Stagg, Aria, and in the past Ibanez, ESP and Peavey to name a few.

None of these companies listed above as far as we know make their variant Explorers in left hand without going the “custom shop” option which usually results in a pay out of around $4000 and possibly more than a year waiting time.

The Explorer guitar is really a master piece.

Left Handed guitarists can play one now, via Gaskell Guitars, and experience first hand the pleasure of such a fabulous instrument.

Gibson is a musical instrument company that has stood the test of time because of innovative and dedicated passion towards the music industry and guitar players and we here at Gaskell Guitars would like to tip our hats in honour of the legend that we have had some fortune to partially benefit from by way of the left handed Explorer style guitar we manufacture to fill that gap in the market.

EXPLORERS are great guitars. Left handed guitarists can now enjoy the greatness of them via Gaskell Guitars!

Gaskell Guitars is a guitar manufacturer in Sydney, Australia that makes only left handed guitars. See http://gaskellguitars.com for more info on our left handed guitar products
WordPress Plugins

Learn and Master Guitar Chords Scales And Arpeggios in order to master the guitar. A complete and thorough understanding of your guitar can not be attained without an adequate knowledge of the fundamental or rudimentary elements of guitar playing and understanding. You will eventually come to realize that it is not via just one, but through many aspects of guitar playing that your comprehension of the instrument will be greatly increased.

You need to learn and master guitar chords. Chords are a special and favorite subject of not just the guitar player, but also for the guitar music maker who desires to make chord progressions and great sounding music. The guitar improvisor needs to understand chords to embellish them and to improvise over them in a way that will sound unique and within the musical framework being played over. It is important to have the proper instruction and guidance in learning guitar chords due to the fact that while there are many chord books, online diagrams, and other downloadable programs giving you chords to play on the guitar, in reality, these do not provide what you need to master chords in a way that will make you a great player, music maker or an effective band member. You need guitar software that is high end and will get the job done for you.

Learn and master guitar scales to be able to play lead guitar like all the guitar heroes that you admire from all of your favorite bands and artists of various styles. Guitar scales will take you through a window of playing that is a full complement to your guitar chords. You may think that you don’t need to learn and master guitar scales because you either have no interest in becoming a blazing lead player or because you do not think that you will ever be able to realistically understand or obtain the ability to do so. But regardless of whether or not you can become a master of guitar scales for these reasons, you need to learn guitar scales because they are important even to melody ideas. As a music maker you want to have a grip upon, and knowing of, your guitar scales so you can make great music. Also your lead playing does not need to be fast and furious. It often won’t be of use to the music you are expressing anyway. And while you are thinking of all of this you have to learn and master your guitar arpeggios to become a well rounded guitarist and to playing the things that you sometimes think are scales from various songs when in reality they are playing arpeggios.

What you need to do is to check yourself into a guitar program that will give you the things like this that you need to become better at your craft. It can be difficult no matter what level of player you are, whether beginner, intermediate or some level of advanced as the time you put into learning the guitar and the money you spend on doing so, rarely gives you the results you desire. This is hardly surprising. Remember, it can be tough because the instrument is difficult to get a grip upon, and there are many options learning the guitar from a music college, to private lessons, to the “hokey dokey” world of online guitar learning and cheap program downloads. You can get the most incredible and quality level of guitar education available if you are willing to spend more than fifty bucks on your passion and you find the ultimate guitar software product that is guaranteed to take you there. There has been a guitar evolution in the learning field for students so they can really learn and master their guitar chords, scales and arpeggios.

Would you like to master the guitar or bass? At www.springofknowledge.com you can find the ultimate guitar or bass university at home with the most powerful interactive guitar and bass lessons software that gives you the best teaching and practice workstation available.

Guitar is one of the versatile musical instruments. One of the great assets of guitar is that you can play it without even knowing how to read the music. With this single point, it is bound to stand out. And to play, now there are many alternative systems designed in order to represent the one that is portrayed traditionally on a music sheet. Guitar tabs files (guitar tablatures) are a big popular among guitar players all over the world, and the system itself is truly universal, as there are no discrepancies between the systems that are used in different parts of the world to read tablatures.Bearing all this in mind, the ever-increasing number of guitar online resources comes as no surprise. If you are a guitar player or are aspiring to learn guitar then you should consider giving guitarists.net website a look. It features guitar chops and lick to set you going, along with a schedule for studying guitar. Guitar warm-ups lessons are also provided, as well as improvisation tips. Lastly, there is thorough information on guitar techniques and guitar scales. These detailed in-depth lessons of guitar courses are great for beginners, as learning just a few of the basic guitar chords will allow you to play thousands of songs. But these lessons also offer advanced harmony, extended guitar chords, and chord building principles which make this series a valuable resource for guitarists at all levels of development. They teach by “lesson set” instead of just flopping out a ton of small video clips. They start with the very basics like tuning your guitar, finger placement, and basic chords, and move on to finger-picking, palm muting, hammer ons, pull offs, and many more advanced topics as you progress through the lessons. We found this surprisingly good for the overall experience, because you can follow through these lesson sets just how you would with a normal guitar teacher. Biggest thing is, it’s cheap as well because they get so many members. The guitar lessons available in this site are created with all stages of guitarists in mind. There are many guitar lessons available for the beginning guitarists with audios and videos. For the beginners it is suggested that they spend at least a week learning the exercises and the songs before they move on. Learning to relax while playing guitar will help immeasurably, so be sure to have fun!

Guitar, a dynamic musical instrument, is played in almost all kind of music; be it pop music, rock music, lounge music, country music or even contemporary classical music. The modern music can`t be imaginable without guitar.
The demand of guitar in every music sphere has made it one of the most sought after musical instruments. As guitar is an expensive musical instrument, it only makes sense to take proper care so that you can continue playing it for years to come. Here are a few tips discussed in the following on how to clean this amazing musical instrument so that its longevity can be increased.
Dust is the main form of debris that is collected on the surface of guitar. Don`t let dust cover on your guitar for dust buildup that can actually affect your guitar`s performance. A very simple approach to keep your guitar clean is by regular dusting. You can wipe off your guitar with a clean and soft cloth. You can either opt for any of your old but clean cloth or you can purchase special cloths that are available in music stores.
If you are a bit fancy about your cleaning, then you can choose many products available in the market that are designed for cleaning guitars. Guitar cleaners, fancy cleaners, liquid solvent and even solutions especially meant for cleaning the fretboard of guitars are available. If your guitar has a matte finish surface, it is suggested to use a water-based guitar cleaner as the creamy polished cleaners have a tendency to be slightly abrasive.
Often sticky residues from tape or stickers are left on guitars, which are a bit tough to remove. Use only mineral spirits or any other lighter fluid such as naphtha to remove the stains on your guitar. These solvent won`t harm the finish of your guitar. You just have to damp cloth with the solvent and wipe off the tape and stickers of your guitar. It might be surprising, but if you clean and dry your hands before you start playing on your guitar, it will significantly lengthen the life of your strings.
Like cleaning, polishing is equally important. A polish from a good brand not only gives your guitar an excellent shine, it also preserves the wood of your guitar. However, you should always choose a polish that is designed specifically for guitars as any general polish might ruin the smooth finish on guitars. But be careful of covering only the major surfaces of your guitar. Areas such as bridge or tuners or even the neck region of the guitar should not be polished.
Another major area which needs regular cleaning is the fingerboard of a guitar which includes the strings and the fret wire. These areas are prone to high-temperature and humidity and also of acidity by the constant touch of the player`s hands. The lower-end manufactured guitars especially suffer from this fret buzzing problem.
Though some simple adjustments raising the string action can correct the problem for some time, but this is not a permanent solution. If the surface of the fingerboard is not much damaged, a simple application of lemon oil can prevent the wood from further cracking. It is suggested to use a piece of extra fine grade steel wool to clean the fingerboard of your guitar. Don`t wet the steel wool; just rub it in up and down motion of the fingerboard area without catching the ends. The frets will be shiny only after a few motions.
Last but not the least is how and where you store your guitar. A guitar-case is a must and it should not be stored in too humid, warm or even too cold surroundings. Also make sure it does not get bumped around. An interior closet is the best place to store guitar.

Despite the similarity of the words, the capo is not your regular trigger-happy Mafia leader although it does come from the Italian word “capo tasto” which means head of finger board. Instead, the capo is a harmless gadget or device attached to a stringed instrument like a guitar, to raise its pitch.

Capos come in different brands but the common kinds are the elastic capos – which are the least expensive and most commonly used by guitar players, the nylon capos, and the steel string capos.

While it may look a bit strange and highly technical for non-guitar players, the capo can be easily attached to a guitar. It is placed on any of the frets of a guitar neck. A fret is a small ridge on the finger board of a stringed instrument. Or in layman’s terms, it looks like equal divisions located in a guitar’s neck or handle – the one attached to the guitar’s semi-elliptical body.

To use the capo, just attach the device to any of the frets and make sure the clamp can hold all the strings down. Inspect for any kind of pulling of the guitar strings as it may cause the guitar to sound out of tune.

A special kind of capo, the third hand capo, is a gadget that can easily clamp all the strings of the guitar in place. Like the ordinary capos, it allows the guitar player to play tunes that may be difficult to play using the bare guitar strings.

If you have tried singing accompanied by a guitar, or just playing the guitar, you may be familiar with songs that are either too low or too high in pitch and you just can’t reach the right pitch. This is where the capo comes to the rescue, by making the pitch right.

The capo is not only used by guitar experts but it also allows beginners to enjoy different kinds of tunes without difficulty. Using the capo can sometimes be frustrating for guitar players as they can hinder the proper playing or proper hand reaching.

While capos are used with stringed instruments, they are also commonly used with guitars. Guitars can either be acoustic or electric, but the basic method of playing the instrument remains the same.

Most guitars have a total of six strings but there are 12-stringed guitars so no matter how many guitar strings there are, they are most generally played by strumming or plucking the strings with a person’s right hand. Sometimes, though, a pick is used to do the plucking or strumming. The left hand is used to hold the guitar in order to play a note or chord.

A guitarist must possess the following essentials:
1. Extra Strings – guitar strings usually break when you least expect them to so do yourself a favor by keeping extra strings for emergency purposes. Guitar strings should be changed every two months even if they do not break. But if you use your guitar more often than the regular guitar player you should try changing strings more than once every two months to keep your guitar in shape.

2. Picks – stock up on these little things because they are easy to lose. Guitar players who only have one pick and lose it use alternatives like carving a pick from a hard plastic but the professional pick is always better.

3. Capo – the capo is a very important device for guitar players because it can help them strum a higher pitch if a song proves to be too high or too low. You do not want to be frustrated if you cannot get the right pitch so invest in a good capo.

Guitar teachers advise their students, especially beginners, to use an electronic guitar tuner so they can focus on learning how to play the guitar. Like the basic tuner, the capo is one of the essential accessories a guitar player should have because it can easily change keys that sound awkward, with ordinary strumming.

If possible purchase the most durable and reliable capo, even if they are more expensive than the ordinary ones. But before buying a capo, you must first have a guitar on which it can be attached.
